Job Summary
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for direct driver management and supervision of a midsize driver roster, ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, load assignment, and providing best-in-class customer service. The transportation manager must ensure compliance with DOT regulations, maintain driver compliance and company regulations, and collaborate with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight and loads.
Availability across all shifts—including day, night, and weekend—ensures operational flexibility and coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety teams to minimize turnover and maximize productivity.
- Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and contribute to special projects focused on optimizing fleet operations and profitability.
- Manage personnel, including training and orientation of drivers and staff, and assist with internal and third‑party systems.
- Analyze fleet operations and profitability, recommend continuous improvement, measure key performance indicators, and create, maintain, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis.
- Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment across the market.
- Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing and documentation, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and creating operational or financial reports.
- Oversee yard operations: inspecting equipment, replacing parts, coordinating repairs, and ensuring preventative maintenance is scheduled and safety‑related mechanical issues are addressed.
- Resolve service issues, routing and planning challenges, mechanical problems, and accessorial pay issues in collaboration with drivers, customers, and company personnel—on‑call as needed.
- Maintain the company’s safety culture through daily safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance and company safety requirements.
- Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on‑time service and meet customer requirements, including managing freight exceptions and adjusting driver ETA based on pickup and delivery schedules and environmental factors.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and 2–3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience.
- Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends, when required.

- Proven experience in establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships.
- Experience fostering strong customer relationships through commitment delivery, open communication, and ongoing feedback and improvement.
- Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
- Accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Experience in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Ability to consistently travel to account and customer locations.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and shifting priorities and directives.
- Experience in holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations.
- Ability to perform in a stressful and high‑pressure work environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, transportation/logistics, supply chain, or related field with 1–2 years of related experience.
The expected starting pay range for this position is between $63,000 and $78,800 per year. Starting pay within this range may be affected by skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the company’s bonus and incentive plans.
