Job Summary
This nine-month, tenure-track (or teaching-track) faculty position requires teaching undergraduate courses in the Recreational Therapy program in the school, developing a programmatic line of research (if tenure-track), and providing service to the school, college, university and professional organizations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Teaching (online and face-to-face) in the undergraduate Recreational Therapy program. Teaching includes preparation of course materials such as syllabi, course content, homework assignments, and handouts; evaluation and grading of students' class work, assignments, and papers; maintaining student attendance records, grades, and other required records; and holding regularly scheduled office hours in order to assist students.
* Provides academic advisement and faculty mentorship to undergraduate students.
* Participates in service at a variety of levels, including program, school, college, university and community service.
* For tenure-track appointments:
Commitment to build and sustain a robust research agenda to include creation and dissemination of new knowledge and pursuit of external research support.
* Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or a related discipline.
Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff and faculty from all backgrounds, programs, and colleges.
If pursuing a tenure-track position, the following minimum qualifications also apply:
Doctoral degree at the time of appointment in Recreational Therapy (or Therapeutic Recreation) or an advanced degree in Recreational Therapy (or Therapeutic Recreation) with a doctorate in a related discipline.
Demonstrated line of scholarly inquiry evidenced by submission of peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, and/or grant submissions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Specialized knowledge in the field of recreational therapy as demonstrated by graduate level coursework or professional experience is required.
* Candidates should possess qualities of effective leadership.
* Candidates should have the ability to deliver accurate, concise and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner.
* Candidates should have the ability to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with national professional organizations.
Experience teaching in both online and traditional classroom environments.
Professional work experience as a recreational therapist in a healthcare setting.
Evidence of strong administrative and managerial skills.
Experience with the accreditation of health profession degree programs.
