Electronics Engineer

Summary

You will serve as a ELECTRONICS ENGINEER in the Acoustics Systems Division, Acoustics Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

• You will serve as an Electronics Engineering specialist with the responsibilities for developing designs and specifications of oceanographic and acoustic instrumentation systems.
• You will prepare preliminary design studies, design memoranda, final design calculations and plans, technical specifications, labor and material estimates for in-house programs.
• You will make trips aboard ships, aboard aircraft, and to other data collection locations to verify system performance.
• You will serve as a shipboard expert in the collection, processing, and quality control of geophysical data.

• Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
• Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• Medical certification of fitness for sea duty is required.
• Work is in an office setting however, the incumbent will be required to travel up to 50 percent of the work year to perform assignments aboard a survey platform.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Experience testing, evaluating, and providing engineering design and development guidance related to ocean acoustic collection equipment.
• Professional experience of electronic engineering principles and practices applicable to the full range of engineering duties concerned with the design of specialized oceanographic and hydrographic data acquisition systems.
• Experience performing complex design work for data acquisition systems and ability to adapt existing designs to meet requirements.
• Experience providing innovative design solutions where no precedent exists.
