SUMMARY:

This is clerical work of some complexity and variety involving matters pertaining to the operation of the Municipal Court Division. This work involves performance of routine tasks in accordance with established procedures that are subject to change. Detailed instructions and close supervision are received at the beginning of the work and when procedural changes are made. Routine work may be performed more independently, and initiative may be exercised as experience is gained.

All work is performed under the direct supervision of the Court Clerk. Work is usually reviewed for accuracy upon completion through reports, conferences, and accomplishment of desired results.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Court Clerk in all duties pertaining to the following:
  • Makes entries into the Criminal and Ex-Officio Dockets. Takes and processes affidavits on crimes that were committed in the City of Moss Point.
  • Prepares court attendance lists for court sessions and makes copies for distribution.
  • Attends court sessions; records court activities and judicial findings.
  • Prepares and maintains files and records. Furnishes court records information to the public and performs manual or machine data processing.
  • Processes and mails police and court records to the applicable federal, state and county agencies.
  • Processes applicants for MASEP participants as per orders of the Court.
  • Collects fines and partial payments on fines.
  • Prepares and maintains warrants and wants file; keeping proper documentation and accuracy of file.
  • Assists other departments as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND

SKILLS:

  • General knowledge of English, spelling, punctuation, grammar and arithmetic skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to concentrate, perform accurately and work under stress of deadlines.
  • Ability to take direction; establish and maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously in person and by telephone; and to establish and maintain good public relations.
  • Ability to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Organizational skills are required.
  • Skilled in operation of computers, calculators, typewriters, fax machines, copier, and other office machines.
  • Experience with common software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets and data base management.
  • Must be able to come to work promptly and regularly.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Mississippi vehicle operator’s license.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or (GED) equivalent;
One (1) year municipal court experience is required. Two (2) years related experience of a responsible nature may be substituted for municipal court experience.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Must maintain a valid Mississippi driver’s license.
