Boiler Room Mechanic

Job Summary:

Installs and maintains boiler equipment, valves, pumps, and piping.

Runs chemical analysis of treatment levels of cooling towers and boilers. Must determine danger points of boiler and related equipment to ensure that maximum safety features are operational and reliable. Maintains air compressors and vacuum pumps.

Receives and acts upon routine and preventative maintenance work orders. Performs related duties as required. Must have a willingness to work for the best interest of the hospital and with due consideration for patients. Must be able to work under emergency conditions and difficult situations. Performs other duties as required.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

• Demonstrates the ability to conduct and analyze routine water analysis tests for chilled water, steam, and heating systems.
• Demonstrates the ability to make routine repairs and/or replace support equipment associated with the cooling and heating systems (i.e. Repair pumps, trouble shoot controllers)
• Demonstrates the ability to operate and control the chiller/boiler equipment to provide continued service to the facility.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Factory training preferred.

At least two years’ experience in boiler maintenance preferred; experienced with boiler and cooling towers chemicals also preferred. Previous experience in repairing such equipment, along with knowledge of equipment functions and uses is required.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; read manufacturer literature and schematics and be able to trouble shoot, cooperate with others, demonstrate initiative. Ability to react to, yet remain calm in, emergency situations.
