Job Description Qualifications

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.

Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by administration.

Reports To

Director of Exceptional Children and Health Services

Job Goal

To provide health services to all students.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and monitor health plans for students with acute and chronic illnesses.

Coordinate school and community health activities as a liaison health professional between the home, school, and community.

Assist teachers, principals, and administrators in developing the school health program.

Assist in school health programs of physical examinations, hearing screenings, and vision screenings.

Implement educational activities to promote health and wellness.

Provide and/or supervise care for students with special needs.

Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.

Provide health education and anticipatory guidance to teachers and staff on common health conditions.

Serve as a liaison health professional between parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.

Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.

Make recommendations/referrals on health needs of individual students.

Implement policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.

Participate in staff development programs.

Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.

Support the Hattiesburg Public School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.

Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
