About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Agronomist with a specialization in Precision Farming to join their dynamic team based in George . This role is critical for advising farmers on optimizing crop production through the strategic implementation of advanced technologies. You will work closely with growers to analyze farm data, develop customized management plans, and integrate smart farming solutions to enhance yield, reduce resource use, and improve overall farm sustainability.

This position offers a blend of on-site farm visits and remote analysis, enabling you to directly impact agricultural outcomes in the Western Cape region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive soil analysis, crop scouting, and field assessments to identify pest, disease, and nutrient management needs.
  • Design and implement precision agriculture strategies, including variable rate application of fertilizers, pesticides, and irrigation.
  • Utilize GPS technology, drone imagery, and sensor data to monitor crop health and optimize resource allocation.
  • Provide technical expertise and training to farmers on the adoption and effective use of precision farming tools and techniques.
  • Analyze farm operational data to identify trends, measure performance, and recommend improvements for increased efficiency and profitability.
  • Stay updated on the latest research and innovations in agronomy, crop science, and agricultural technology.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or higher in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in agronomy, with at least 3 years focused on precision farming technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using farm management software, GIS tools, and data analysis platforms.
  • Strong understanding of soil science, plant physiology, and integrated pest management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client-facing skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with farmers.
