Job SummaryA Reinforcing Iron Journeyman will position and secure steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.
Overview Of Primary Duties- Determine the number, size, shape, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.
- Position and secure steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.
- Select and place rods in forms, spacing and fastening them together using wire and pliers.
- Cut bars to required lengths using a hacksaw, bar cutters, or acetylene torch.
- Bend steel rods with hand tools or rod bending machine.
- Reinforce concrete with wire mesh and weld reinforcing bars together using arc-welding equipment.
- Ensure all reinforcing material is properly positioned to bear its structural load.
- Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation.
- Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
- Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
- Perform other duties as required.

- Refuse unsafe work and follow safety procedures.
- Report incidents, near misses, and hazards.
- Wear and maintain PPE.
- Notify colleagues of hazards.
- Participate in inspections and training.
- Contribute suggestions for safety improvements.
Level III: 4+ years heavy industrial reinforcing iron experience, NCCER Reinforcing Iron Journeyman certification.
Level II: 4+ years experience, NCCER “Performance” verification, other certifications.
Level I: 4+ years experience.
Requirements- Ability to read ISO's, blueprints, P&IDs.
- Work independently following instructions.
- Personal tools as per Yates standards.
- Complete safety training (Confined Space, LOTO, Heights).
Work in various weather, heights, noisy environments, and lift objects up to 25 lbs. Must wear safety harnesses when working at heights and communicate effectively.
