Construction Estimator

H&L Contracting is a Suffolk County based General Contractor specializing in Heavy Civil, Highway & Marine Construction. Our office is located in Hauppauge, NY and we have various projects throughout the Tri-State area and New England.

H&L marine work includes hydraulic and mechanical dredging, pile driving, stone jetties, bulk heading, stone revetment, and marsh rehabilitation. Road construction jobs include bridge rehabilitation, bridge rail, concrete work, asphalt paving, structural steel, overhead sign structures, guide rail, earth moving, and ornamental fence.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team. You will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for our heavy civil and highway projects. You will work closely with project managers, field supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure competitive and accurate bids.

Responsibilities

• Review, download, and evaluate incoming Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
• Develop comprehensive material takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Identify subcontractor requirements and develop scopes for pricing.
• Ensure bid deliverables are submitted accurately and on time.
• Coordinate with internal teams to refine estimates and ensure project profitability.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in heavy civil construction.
• Demonstrated expertise in road and bridge construction work.
• Proficiency with Army Corps of Engineers and NYC and/or NYS DOT specifications and requirements.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials, means, and methods.
• Proficiency with industry-standard takeoff software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• HCSS expertise.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
