About the Role
Spellman High Voltage Electronics Corp. seeks an experienced engineering leader in embedded systems for power electronics, power management, and digital controls. The role requires managing a team of seven embedded systems engineers, overseeing firmware and software development for high voltage power supplies, and coordinating with global engineering, sales, marketing, and operations teams.
Responsibilities- Technical oversight of all embedded systems development activities, providing technical direction, workload management, and day‑to‑day expertise.
- Project planning for firmware/software development, prioritizing tasks and managing schedules.
- Oversight of firmware and software design for high voltage power supplies, including languages such as C, Verilog, VHDL, Assembly, C#, VB6, Java, and WPF.
- Interface with peers in engineering to implement desired features per product and application requirements.
- Preparation and maintenance of technical documentation (circuit diagrams, manuals, reports, release notes).
- Interpretation and review of internal/external customer requirements.
- Improvement of the release process, including revision control systems such as Tortoise SVN.
- Research of latest embedded systems concepts (DSPs, MCUs, FPGAs, CPLDs, SOMs).
- Provide daily leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the embedded systems team.
- Collaborate with global engineering, sales & marketing, operations, and quality teams.
- Develop and implement embedded systems engineering strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Foster an engineering culture of high performance and continuous learning.
- Lead product design reviews, approve design changes, specifications, and releases.
- Ensure project execution on time, within budget, and in compliance with standards and regulations.
- Align priorities with Manufacturing and Quality departments, driving continuous improvement.
- Engage in strategic discussions on product, market, and technology road‑mapping.
- Support the Sales & Marketing team in identifying product needs and providing technical expertise.
- Travel domestically and internationally about 10% of the time.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 15+ years of product and technology development experience in power conversion and power electronics.
- 7+ years of leading an engineering team in a global company, preferably with manufacturing exposure.
- Extensive knowledge of power electronics, analog circuit design, magnetic design principles, and power conversion.
- Experience in high‑voltage X‑ray power conversion technology highly desired.
- Strong understanding of RTOS and bare‑metal firmware.
- Proven leadership abilities, coaching, motivation, and strategic thinking.
- Project management skills and proficiency with engineering design tools in power conversion, power management, digital and analog control.
- Customer‑focused orientation and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~10%).
Salary range: $200,000 – $275,000, plus a full benefits package. On‑site presence required at Spellman High Voltage headquarters in Hauppauge, NY. Relocation assistance available.
