Our client, a family office in Great Neck, NY is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team.
The Senior Accountant will support the accounting, reporting, cash management, and financial administration functions for a private family office. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records across multiple entities, assisting with month-end and year-end close, preparing reconciliations and schedules, coordinating with outside advisors, and supporting timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, discreet, responsive, and comfortable working in a high-touch private wealth environment.
This person will work closely with the Controller, Chief Financial Officer, family office leadership, tax advisors, banks, vendors, investment managers, and other service providers.
- Maintain accurate books and records for family office entities, trusts, LLCs, partnerships, foundations, and personal accounts.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and monthly close work papers.
- Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, cash flow summaries, and entity-level reports.
- Track activity across bank accounts, investment accounts, credit cards, loans, intercompany balances, and personal accounts.
- Support accounting for real estate holdings, private investments, charitable activity, and other family office assets.
- Review, code, and process invoices, reimbursements, credit card charges, and recurring payments.
- Assist with bank reconciliations, cash balance monitoring, wire support, deposits, and payment documentation.
- Maintain vendor records, W-9s, payment approvals, and supporting documentation in accordance with internal procedures.
- Support cash flow tracking and help identify upcoming funding needs, capital calls, taxes, insurance, and major expenditures.
- Coordinate with outside CPA firms and tax advisors by gathering tax work papers, K-1s, 1099s, charitable receipts, investment statements, and entity documentation.
- Assist with estimated tax payment tracking, year-end reporting, and tax-related reconciliations.
- Maintain organized records for trusts, partnerships, foundations, real estate entities, and personal tax matters.
- Support compliance activities related to payroll, vendor reporting, insurance, property taxes, and other recurring obligations.
- Record investment contributions, distributions, management fees, capital calls, and realized or unrealized activity based on statements and advisor reports.
- Maintain schedules for alternative investments, private equity, hedge funds, real estate, loans, fixed assets, and charitable giving.
- Assist with entity-level reporting, intercompany activity, document retention, and transaction support.
- Help improve accounting workflows, documentation standards, filing systems, and reporting processes.
- Support implementation or maintenance of accounting, bill payment, document management, and reporting systems.
- Assist with special projects involving real estate, philanthropy, estate planning, entity formation, acquisitions, or family office operations.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial and personal information with discretion.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; family office, private wealth, public accounting, investment management, real estate, or closely held business experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close procedures.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, investment activity, trusts, partnerships, LLCs, or private foundations preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting and reporting systems such as Quick Books, Sage Intacct, Net Suite, , Addepar, Archway, Excel, or similar platforms.
- Strong Excel skills, including reconciliations, schedules, formulas, and data organization.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, judgment, and follow-through.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work professionally with advisors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
The compensation for this position ranges from $80,000.00 - $. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills and certifications.
