About Us
Long Island Labs (LI Labs) is an ISO 17025-accredited contract testing laboratory specializing in dietary supplement testing. We deliver accurate, defensible analytical data across full USP monograph testing, supporting clients with identity, potency, purity, and microbial compliance work. Our team combines cross-disciplinary expertise in analytical chemistry and microbiology, backed by state-of-the-art instrumentation and a commitment to regulatory rigor and long-term client partnerships.
Aboutthe Role
We're hiring a Scientist II to take on more independent, higher-complexity testing responsibilities within our analytical chemistry lab. This role is a step above entry-level bench work: you'll run and troubleshoot instrumentation, execute and help develop test methods, and mentor junior analysts, while working closely with lab leadership to maintain the accuracy and defensibility our clients rely on.
Key Responsibilities- Perform analytical testing in accordance with USP monographs and validated in-house methods, including assay testing (HPLC & GC), impurity testing (GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS), and identification testing
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation (ICP-MS/ICP-OES, GC-FID, GC-MS/MS, HPLC, LC-MS/MS, HPTLC, UV-Vis, FTIR, or fluorescence)
- Execute method development and validation studies under the guidance of senior scientific staff
- Review and interpret analytical data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ISO 17025 and USP requirements prior to reporting
- Maintain thorough, audit-ready documentation, including bench sheets, raw data, and instrument logs
- Support root-cause investigations for out-of-specification (OOS) or out-of-trend (OOT) results
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Scientist I / entry-level analysts
- Assist with instrument qualification, calibration, and preventive maintenance schedules
- Contribute to internal SOP development and revision
- Support external audits and client inspections as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field (required)
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory, ideally within contract testing, pharmaceutical, or dietary supplement environments
- Demonstrated experience with USP monograph testing and regulated (GMP/ISO 17025) testing environments
- Hands-on proficiency with at least one major instrument platform (HPLC, GC, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, ICP-MS/ICP-OES)
- Strong data integrity habits and familiarity with audit-ready documentation practices
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot methods and instrumentation, and manage multiple projects against deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and cross-functional collaboration
- Experience with method development and validation (ICH/USP , )
- Familiarity with LIMS and electronic data management systems
- Prior mentorship or informal supervisory experience
- Experience supporting regulatory or client audits (FDA, ISO assessors, client quality teams)
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Health/dental/vision benefits
- PTO policy
- Opportunity to grow within a fast-scaling, ISO 17025-accredited laboratory across chemistry, microbiology, and quality functions
