Craven County Schools – Teacher

Position:
Teacher
Reports to:
Principal

Terms of Employment: 10 months

Pay Grade: NC State Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience + Supplement

FLSA Status:
Exempt

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, teaches one or more classes to students in grades for which a NC teaching license is held. The employee plans, organizes, and presents instruction that helps students learn subject matter and skills contributing to their educational and social development. The employee assists in other school programs and creates a flexible environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability.

Education and Experience

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university.

Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable)

Must hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
  • Teach the North Carolina Standard Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards for the assigned grade.
  • Plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills contributing to educational and social development.
  • Conduct lessons or instructional activities at a brisk pace appropriate to the grade level.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior required to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
  • Instruct students in the proper care and use of materials and equipment; control use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepare progress reports.
  • Select and requisition instructional materials, books, equipment, etc., and maintain inventory records.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional learning activities.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the evaluation method in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Speak fluently and precisely and present lessons or instructional activities using concepts and language understandable to the students.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Cooperate in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
  • Participate in faculty and/or district committees and sponsor student activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Adaptable to performing under stress and in emergency situations.
  • Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public.
  • Experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Experience with the use of technology in instruction.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands include regular talking or hearing, standing, walking, sitting, using hands, and occasionally stooping, kneeling, or crawling. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds. The job requires sensory vision, reading, and research. Physical requirements are consistent with those for Light work.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board and local policy on personnel evaluation.
