Heavy Equipment Operator, Construction Labor & Trades, Maintenance Worker
The Excavator Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating excavators and other heavy equipment to excavate, move, and grade earth in accordance with project specifications and safety regulations. The ideal candidate demonstrates proficiency with a variety of machinery and maintains a commitment to safety and quality work.
Key Responsibilities- Operate excavators for digging, trenching, and earthmoving tasks at construction sites.
- Inspect equipment before use to ensure proper operation and safety.
- Monitor and maintain machine performance during operation.
- Follow site plans, drawings, and instructions from supervisors.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and equipment maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and governmental regulations.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors on project progress.
- Assist with routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs of equipment.
- Understand and operate in accordance with environmental guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year experience operating excavators or similar heavy equipment.
- Valid driver’s license; equipment operator certification (if required by local regulations).
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures relevant to equipment operation.
- Physical strength, stamina, and flexibility to perform manual labor and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Formal vocational training or certification in heavy equipment operation.
- Experience working in construction, mining, or related industries.
- Familiarity with GPS or automated guidance systems on excavators.
- Proven track record of safe equipment operation.
- Attention to detail and situational awareness.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Problem-solving and adaptability in dynamic environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and instructions.
- Outdoor construction sites, exposed to varying weather conditions.
- May involve extended periods of standing, walking, and lifting.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
