Overview

Haverford College seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor of African and Africana Studies. The position is full-time and benefits-eligible, beginning July 1, 2026, with classes starting August 31, 2026. This appointment is for 1 year and is not renewable. The teaching load is five courses for the year (e.g., 2–3).

Responsibilities
  • Teach the core course for the program, Introduction to African and Africana Studies.
  • Teach elective courses at the intermediate and upper levels, with a preference for candidates who specialize in African History.
  • Respect class size constraints: introductory courses limited to 35 students; intermediate courses limited to 25; upper-level courses typically limited to 15.
Qualifications
  • Specialization in African History and ability to teach elective courses at the intermediate and upper levels.
  • Commitment to engaging a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds and creating an inclusive classroom environment in a liberal arts context.
