March 2025 Position Summary
The Haverford School is seeking an English teacher. Preferred candidates will have at least three years of teaching experience. In addition, the candidate will have a proven record of contributing to the life of the school in co‑curricular areas, especially coaching and advising students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach four sections of English.Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.Evaluate and grade students’ classwork, assignments, and papers.Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.Participate in school evaluation and professional development programs.Advise students on academic and other matters in accordance with the School’s mission.Coach at least one athletic team and advise an extracurricular activity as required.Participate in some infrequent evening or weekend activities, including meetings, professional development, or other school activities.Possess an understanding of character, culture, and community, and the implementation of those principles in independent schools.Other duties, as assigned.Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in English (Master’s preferred).Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and parents.Enthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, coaching, and mentoring high school students.A role model for students.Ability to meet classroom, advisory, and extracurricular obligations on a consistent schedule.Demonstrates cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions.Sense of humor, enthusiasm, high ethical professional standards, and multicultural perspective.Ability to attend meetings before and after the normal school day schedule and sometimes in the evening.Physical Requirements and
Work EnvironmentWorks in an environment with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and contacts.May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.Be able to lift to 15 lbs occasionally.Work primarily in a traditional climate‑controlled office environment.Contact Information
