POSITION DESCRIPTION/
PURPOSE:
The Moderate Special Needs Teacher at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School provides specialized instruction and support to students with moderate disabilities within academic, vocational, and inclusive settings. This position focuses on supporting students' access to academic content, vocational programming, and career readiness, while ensuring compliance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and DESE special education regulations.
The teacher plays a key role in collaborating with academic teachers, vocational instructors, related service providers, para educators, families, and employers to promote student independence, employability skills, and successful postsecondary outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
All applicants licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (5-12). A Master's Degree in Special Education with a primary license in a subject area.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Design and implement the components of an individualized educational program in an inclusionary setting. Evaluate student performance and monitor progress in all facets of the curriculum. Function as a liaison in the vocational/technical component of a student's program.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Provide direct special education instruction in academic classes, vocational/technical programs, and small-group or pull-out settings as determined by IEPs.
2.Prepare and provide accommodations to allow students access to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks while implementing specially designed instruction in an inclusionary setting.
3.Function as a member of a team, conduct annual reviews, and
attend meetings in compliance with Special Education requirements.
4.Complete required IEP development, paperwork and progress reports for Special Education students within mandated timelines.
5.Administer, interpret and present evaluation data for evaluations and initial evaluations as assigned.
6.Serve as a liaison for the students in an assigned caseload to
support all facets of the curriculum//IEP including the vocational/technical component.
7.Provide accommodations to vocational/technical teachers as needed
in a consultative model if required in an IEP.
8.Perform all duties and functions as deemed necessary by the Superintendent, Principal, Administration, and his/her designee.
9. Support students in developing foundational academic, executive functioning, communication, and social-emotional skills necessary for success in both academic and vocational environments.
10.Embed functional life skills, workplace readiness, and self-advocacy skills into instruction when appropriate.

10 Month Position
According to Teacher Salary Schedule
Salary Range $64,472 - $118,996 - depending on experience, licensure & degree/credits
