Title of Position: READING/LITERACY TEACHER (COACH) K-4
Work Year: August - June
Effective Date of Employment: School Year
Salary: $56,473 to $112,526 per year, in accordance with the Teachers’ Salary Schedule based on education and experience.
Location: Haverhill Public Schools – Hunking School, Haverhill, Massachusetts 01830
Reporting: Directly to the building Principal; jointly to the Principal and ELA Supervisor in curriculum and instruction areas.
Statement of Duties:
- Serve as liaison among the ELA Supervisor, Reading Interventionist, and classroom teachers.
- Consult classroom teachers on grouping, testing, student placement, and instructional strategies.
- Provide resources and ideas about assessment and instruction.
- Model lessons, problem‑solve with teachers, and facilitate group discussions.
- Assist in selection of instructional materials and model daily lessons using standards‑based instructional practices.
- Support Professional Development in literacy instruction and help improve fidelity of literacy instruction.
- Participate in kindergarten screening, team evaluations and testing of new students as directed.
- Assist in data analysis and interpretation; promote students’ interest in independent reading.
- Inventory Language Arts materials in assigned building(s); cooperate with Title I, Special Education, Reading Interventionist, and administrators.
- Attend monthly Literacy Meetings with the ELA Supervisor.
- Perform instructional and general duties as directed by the Principal, ELA Supervisor, Superintendent of Schools, and school policies.
Qualifications:
- Certified as a Teacher of Reading by the Massachusetts Department of Education, SEI Endorsement.
- Education in Reading preferred.
- Demonstrated classroom teaching experience.
- Knowledge of the Massachusetts ELA/Literacy Framework.
- Skills, knowledge, and dispositions to collaborate with teachers to improve classroom literacy instruction.
- Basic understanding of adult learning and leadership skills to effectively support teachers.
Job Requirements:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
