- Develop and implement curriculum and instructional programs that engage students and support achievement of state and local science standards.
- Design units of instruction with measurable outcomes and higher‑order thinking tasks.
- Create well‑structured lessons with appropriate pacing, activities, resources, technology, and student grouping.
- Assess student learning through informal and formal methods, including interim assessments, and analyze data to inform instruction.
- Use assessment results to adjust practice and implement differentiated interventions and enhancements for students.
- Model and reinforce student effort and perseverance, and provide clear expectations for quality of work and behavior.
- Adapt instruction, materials, and assessments to make content accessible to English learners and students with disabilities.
- Use rituals, routines, and supportive processes to create a safe learning environment that encourages academic risk‑taking.
- Promote respectful, culturally responsive teaching practices that affirm students’ differences.
- Collaborate with colleagues—general, special education, and English learners—to share data, best practices, and interventions.
- Engage families through regular communication, sharing of the curriculum, and strategies to support learning at home.
- Reflect on instruction and student interactions to improve practice and set measurable professional learning goals.
- Seek professional development and apply new ideas to enhance teaching effectiveness and assume additional instructional or leadership responsibilities when appropriate.
- Participate in school‑wide decision making, curriculum planning, and professional collaboration.
- Fulfill additional duties as directed by the Principal, Curriculum Supervisor, Superintendent, or the Haverhill School Committee.
- Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education for Science 5‑8 with an SEI endorsement.
- Proficiency demonstrated through transcripts of undergraduate and graduate work in relevant fields; strong academic achievement preferred.
- Knowledge of middle‑school philosophy, organization, and curricula.
- Understanding of middle‑school students’ developmental and adolescent needs.
- Knowledge of recommended middle‑school instructional practices.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
