Responsibilities
  • Provides direct services for children in integrated and pullout settings as determined by IEPs.
  • Develops modifications to assist students in the regular classrooms.
  • Participates as a member of the evaluation team when appropriate.
  • Evaluates children who have been referred, developing appropriate reports and IEPs as required.
  • Trains classroom educational support personnel as necessary.
  • Coordinates and arranges team meeting processes if requested.
  • Works cooperatively with other personnel and parents.
  • Possesses sound knowledge and understanding of the subject matter and pedagogy, engaging students in learning experiences.
  • Possesses knowledge of developmental levels of students and provides differentiated learning experiences.
  • Designs units of instruction with measurable outcomes and challenging tasks requiring higher‑order thinking.
  • Designs well‑structured lessons with engaging strategies, pacing, and materials.
  • Designs and administers a variety of informal and formal assessments.
  • Analyzes results from assessments to adjust practice and implement interventions.
  • Draws conclusions from a thorough analysis of assessment data to improve student learning.
  • Shares conclusions with colleagues and seeks feedback on instructional practices.
  • Provides descriptive feedback to students and families to encourage improvement.
  • Defines high expectations for student work and effort, providing exemplars and rubrics.
  • Uses motivational instructional practices to engage students.
  • Applies tiered instruction and scaffolds for diverse learners.
  • Creates a safe learning environment, using rituals and routines to prevent disruptive behaviors.
  • Develops students’ interpersonal, group, and communication skills in diverse peer settings.
  • Guides students to identify strengths, interests, and needs, encouraging academic risk‑taking.
  • Uses strategies that affirm student differences related to background and identity.
  • Responds appropriately to conflicts arising from differences in backgrounds and identities.
  • Communicates specific standards for work, effort, and behavior.
  • Models and reinforces mastery through effort rather than innate ability.
  • Adapts instruction, materials, and assessments for inclusivity.
  • Supports families to participate in classroom and community.
  • Updates parents on curriculum and suggests learning support strategies.
  • Provides clear expectations to parents.
  • Engages in two‑way communication with families about performance.
  • Responds promptly and respectfully to family communications.
  • Reflects on lessons, units, and interactions to improve practices.
  • Sets professional practice and learning goals based on self‑assessment and data.

  • Performs instruction and general duties as directed by school leadership.
Qualifications
  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities; SEI Endorsement required.
  • Previous teaching or experience with children with moderate special needs preferred.
  • Proficiency demonstrated through transcripts of undergraduate and/or graduate work; evidence of academic accomplishment is preferred.
  • Alternative qualifications may be considered by the Superintendent of Schools.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
