Position: ESP Special Education Academic Support Pentucket Lake El

ESP Special Education Academic Support – Pentucket Lake Elementary School

Haverhill Public Schools, Pentucket Lake School – Haverhill, Massachusetts.

Responsibilities
  • Under supervision of a certified teacher, prepare for classroom instructional events and other educational or non‑educational activities in accordance with student IEPs.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies and interventions to reinforce material or skills based on individual students' needs.
  • Provide positive role models, treat students with respect, and support classroom learning.
  • Support students in academics, social skills, self‑care (ADLs), and vocational tasks.
  • Assist in generalization of skill development and community integration.
  • Assist with addressing student behavior and encouraging effort in the classroom.
  • Use online platforms such as Google Meet and Google Classroom; work in person and virtually.
  • Complete onboarding, familiarization with IEPs, district policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource person communicating with teachers regarding specific instruction and goal attainment.
  • Assist in behavioral interventions and obtain Safety Care certification (training provided).
  • Assist in implementing treatment plans, safety plans, behavior plans, etc.
  • Collect data as instructed.
  • Work as a member of a team with BCBA, RBT, and others.
  • Apply ABA strategies, execute discrete trials, de‑escalation techniques, and positive behavioral interventions (training provided).
  • Assist with toileting and lifting/carrying students per IEP as required.
Administrative Support
  • Escort and supervise student movements throughout the school.
  • Proctor testing and provide make‑up work assistance.
  • Assist with toileting, diaper changing, and other non‑instructional duties.
  • Supervise students during breaks, lunches, community trips, fire drills, and assemblies; cover absent staff.
  • Set up and operate instructional/assistive technology equipment.
  • Participate in professional development activities appropriate to district expectations.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Principal, Director of Special Education, and Superintendent of Schools.
Qualifications
  • Passing score on the Para Pro Test or other state‑approved assessment program, or 48 college credits.
  • Associate degree (preferred). Bachelor’s degree preferred for higher rate.
  • Willingness to accept direction and cooperate with all staff.
  • Prefer prior experience with children in a school or similar setting.
  • Physical ability to move within school premises, lift and carry materials up to 20 lb, and assist with heavier loads as needed.
  • Good judgment, tact, diplomacy; respect confidentiality; sensitivity to child concerns.
  • Computer literate; ability to use assistive technology.
  • Proficiency with online platforms such as Google Meet and Google Classroom (in person and virtually).
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Other qualifications acceptable per Superintendent of Schools.
Employment Details

Starting Date: Immediately

Full‑time position; bilingual preferred.

Salary: According to Educational Support Personnel Salary Scale:
Associate Degree or Equivalent – $25.04 per hour
Bachelor’s Degree – $28.29 per hour

Effective Date of Employment: 2025‑2026 School Year
