Job Description

Detailed responsibilities and expectations for the Grade 6 ELA Teacher position.

Responsibilities

Curriculum and Planning:

  • Possesses strong subject knowledge and pedagogy, engaging students in learning experiences.
  • Uses differentiated instruction to meet developmental levels.
  • Designs units with measurable outcomes and higher‑order thinking tasks.
  • Plans lessons with clear objectives, engaging strategies, sequencing, activities, resources, technologies, and grouping.

Assessment:

  • Designs and administers informal and formal assessments, including interim tests.
  • Analyzes assessment data to adjust instruction and implement interventions.

Analysis:

  • Draws conclusions from assessment data to improve learning.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to share insights.
  • Provides descriptive feedback to students and families.

Instruction:

  • Sets high expectations and provides exemplars, rubrics, and guided practice.
  • Uses engaging instructional practices for all students.
  • Applies tiered instruction and scaffolds, including for students with disabilities and English learners.

Learning Environment:

  • Creates a safe physical and intellectual environment.
  • Develops interpersonal, group, and communication skills.
  • Encourages risk‑taking and self‑assessment.

Cultural Proficiency:

  • Employs strategies to respect diverse backgrounds, identities, and languages.
  • Responds to conflicts arising from differences.

Expectations:

  • Communicates and enforces specific standards for student work, effort, and behavior.
  • Models effort and mastery approach.
  • Adapts instruction, materials, and assessments for all students, including English learners and students with disabilities.

Communication:

  • Maintains two‑way communication with families about performance and learning.

Reflection:

  • Reflects on lesson effectiveness, units, and interactions, using insights to improve practice.

Qualifications
  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in Elementary or ELA, SEI Endorsement.
  • Proficient as evidenced by transcripts of undergraduate and graduate work in relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of middle school philosophy, organization, and curricula.
  • Understanding of middle school student and adolescent needs.
  • Knowledge of recommended middle school instructional practices.
  • Other alternatives acceptable as determined by the Superintendent.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
