Position Overview

The Electrical Technician – Vehicle Systems supports the design, integration, validation, and production of electrical and electro‑mechanical systems for custom vehicle applications. This position is responsible for maintaining existing electrical designs, assisting in the development of new systems, and ensuring compliance with company standards, industry best practices, applicable electrical codes, and certification requirements.

This is a hybrid office and hands‑on role requiring work in both engineering and production environments. Responsibilities include creating and reviewing electrical layouts, developing and testing prototypes, troubleshooting electrical systems, inspecting vehicle installations, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to ensure reliable, manufacturable designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Familiarize yourself with industry standards and compliance programs
  • Become internal company authority in electrical matters including verification, compatibility, and specifications
  • Act as technical lead for electrical department on design reviews and large projects
  • Review documentation for errors, updates, and sign off approval
  • Generate and review manufacturing ECOs
  • Define system level requirements for new designs and ensure they are communicated to external and internal teams
  • Research and identify new products, components, solutions, and partners to achieve future product goals
  • Manage electrical technologies including testing, pre‑installation & setup of configurable components
  • Flash, configure, program, install software / firmware updates on integration products
  • Determine and enforce wiring specifications including wire gauges and fuse ratings
  • Identify or verify component compatibility with new and existing designs including voltage and amp draw calculations
  • Interface with the purchasing & procurement team to define and verify electrical components for each build
  • Work with production managers to ensure manufacturing teams have the information and resources and documentation needed to complete the build process
  • Work with production managers to train production staff on proper installation for electrical systems and practices
  • Work with external vendors on harness pre‑manufacturing including the creation and dissemination of documentation, quality standards, test requirements, and preferred practices.
  • Work with external partners to obtain product specifications and define customization
  • Gather electrical specifications experimentally when not available from the manufacturer
  • Support and troubleshoot electrical issues on current or previous vehicle designs/builds
Required Skills & Experience
  • Extensive experience with 12V DC electrical systems.
  • Ability to perform electrical calculations and assess circuit safety, load capacity, and potential hazards.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency with the following electrical components, tools, and technologies:
    • Resistors, diodes, relays, voltage regulators, PWM controllers, and dimmers.
    • Electrical connectors and terminal systems, including Universal Mate‑N‑Lok, Mini‑Fit Jr., Molex, TE Connectivity (Tyco), and similar products.
