Security Specialists Contract 7.1.2022-6.30.2025

Organizational Relationship:
Directly responsible to the Principal and/or his/her designee in all matters pertaining to the building. Responsible to the Supervisor of Security and the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for all other matters.

Statement of Duties
  • Enforce visitor management procedures, issue HPS visitor badges, and direct visitors, guests, or non-students to proper offices.
  • Maintain visitor log sign‑in sheets for incoming and outgoing guests.
  • Communicate directions to unauthorized persons to leave premises when they have no legitimate reason to be on school property.
  • Report discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to Principal, Assistant Principals, and/or Supervisor of Security immediately.
  • Deter student loitering in hallways to ensure smooth traffic flow.
  • Monitor electronic security camera activity and communicate questionable activity via radio.
  • Check assigned areas of the building (inside/outside at start, throughout, and end of each day) and school grounds to prevent theft, vandalism, and unlawful acts.
  • Operate two‑way radios with other security specialists, school resource officer, and administrators.
  • Observe student behavior to prevent altercations or disorder.
  • Render assistance within the school building when needed.
  • Help direct teacher, visitor, parent, and student traffic flow throughout school day and during bus loading/unloading.
  • Supervise student activity on school grounds as scheduled by administration and protect school property.
  • Interpret and enforce Haverhill Public School policies and procedures.
  • Participate in security unit meetings and in‑service training.
  • Have wide knowledge of teenage behaviors, gang activities, and at‑risk behaviors (preferred).
  • Display strong, positive communication and interaction skills both oral and written when dealing with the public, students, and staff.
  • Display ethical and professional behavior when communicating and working with staff, students, and community members.
  • Exercise discretion in protecting and releasing confidential information and in interpreting and administering policies and procedures.
  • Maintain hours set by school administration; availability for additional hours if needed.
  • Attend work regularly, be punctual, report to work, and return from scheduled breaks.
  • Perform all other general duties as directed by Principal, Supervisor of Security, Superintendent of Schools, or his/her designee and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
Qualifications
  • High School graduate with some post‑high school education (preferred).
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Physically fit and able to perform duties.
  • Ability to sit and/or drive for long periods, stand and/or walk for long periods, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, reach, squat, climb stairs, kneel, walk several hours per day in hallways and outside. Must work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).
  • Be honest, sincere, and scrupulous in relationship with school personnel, students, community members, Supervisor of Security, School Resource Officer.
  • Communicate with young people, set limits without being antagonistic or abrasive.
  • Basic First Aid knowledge and CPR certified.
  • Bi‑lingual in Spanish (preferred).
  • Other qualifications may be considered as appropriate.
