High Pressure Boiler Operator / Facilities Technician

Full-time, Technical position located in Haverhill, MA.

Salary: $32.00 to $38.00 per hour.

Shift

Schedule:

6 AM – 6 PM and 6 PM – 6 AM rotating shifts: 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off, 2 days on, 2 days off; cycle repeats every 4 weeks.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and perform tests on boiler systems to find any defects or leaks
  • Maintain operating pressure for plant operations
  • Operate boilers and related equipment, including monitoring systems, maintaining daily logs, reading meters and gauges, and adjusting controls and valves
  • Repair or replace parts such as valves, fittings, pumps, joints, or pipes using appropriate tools
  • Correctly diagnose and fix problems; communicate and review with management timely
  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, steam, water, waste, and pneumatic systems/components in food manufacturing equipment related to packaging, processing, filling and facility systems (industrial refrigeration, compressed air and high‑pressure steam systems, pumps, heat exchangers, boiler and water treatment/conditioning systems, homogenizers, emulsifiers, etc.)
  • Complete job work orders and other needed maintenance documentation
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance according to PM schedule to minimize equipment downtime
  • Maintain production line machinery and equipment to manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications
  • Repair mechanical and structural components on production lines to recover from equipment failures
  • Requisition and maintain an appropriate inventory of parts/supplies to facilitate timely repair of equipment
  • Complete work orders and required paperwork to the highest quality standards
  • Follow SOPs, company policies and procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness, striving for an accident‑free workplace

License/Certification:

  • Massachusetts 2nd Class Fireman (Required)

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Two or more years of related experience, preferably in the food industry
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and skilled use of a variety of hand tools, precision hand tools, and measuring instruments; preferred competencies in welding, presses, grinders, basic fabrication, PLC logic
  • Ability to evaluate various solutions to problems and choose appropriate actions
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, schematics, service, and operating manuals
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, production, quality, and operational records and logs
  • Knowledge of LOTO, GMPs, Confined Space, Hot Works, Hazardous/Regulated Waste, Electrical Safety, MSDS, OSHA, and other environmental regulations and procedures
  • Strong communication and decision‑making skills
  • Proficiency in speaking, writing, and understanding English
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary; flexible to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts, weekends, and holidays per business needs
  • Maintain neat and organized work areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Perform various physical activities such as heavy lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 50 lbs
  • Stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods
  • Work in tanks at any height, such as water storage tanks above the ground
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Work and communicate in an environment with moving mechanical parts and loud noise requiring hearing protection
  • Balance while ascending/descending ladders and scaffolding using safety procedures
  • Twist, bend, lay, kneel, reach, and crouch at elevated and ground levels
  • Vision abilities: close, distant, and color vision
  • Adjust to changing demands and environments quickly
  • Be exposed to variable air temperatures, wet and/or humid conditions, high locations, vibration, chemicals
