The General Maintenance position is an entry‑level role responsible for assisting with general tasks around the worksite. This role requires little to no prior experience and serves as an introduction to the industry. Under supervision, the helper may assist with minor preventative maintenance tasks and learn basic job functions. The primary objective of this position is to assess the employee’s potential for long‑term development within the company.

• Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE and following MSHA/OSHA regulations.
• Maintain a high level of situational awareness to prevent accidents and ensure your safety and that of others.
• Report any safety concerns, incidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly.

• Follow a preventative maintenance schedule for equipment to avoid unexpected breakdowns, which might involve small component changes, fluid changes, and/or minor tear-downs of equipment.
• Perform housekeeping tasks such as removing debris, dust, and sediment from machines, especially crushers and screening equipment.
• Ensure all necessary tools, equipment, and materials are in good condition before starting maintenance tasks.

• Follow instructions and work plans to ensure efficient transportation to the correct destination.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers to ensure safe and efficient movement of materials.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Experience: Experience in maintenance, preferably around heavy equipment and machines.

Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong understanding of safety protocols and MSHA/OSHA regulations.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work with others and manage time effectively.
• Physical ability to climb up and down equipment and handle heavy loads.
• Work Ethic: Strong work ethic and willingness to take direction
• Communicating with Supervisors and Peers: Receptive to feedback and eager to develop new skills
• Handling and Moving Objects: Ability to perform basic physical labor tasks in various environmental conditions
• Working with Others: Dependable, punctual, and able to work as a team. Demonstrates initiative and a positive attitude toward learning

Hourly Range. The hourly range for this role is between $22.21 and $29.04. This range does not include our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider several factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.

Shift Differential. At Vulcan Materials Company, Northeast Division, Night Shift employees are paid a Shift Differential of an additional 20% on their base pay for working during the designated time. We believe the additional compensation helps to offset the inconvenience of working less desirable hours.
