Brief

Position Overview

The College of Arts, Sciences, and Education’s MEd Program in Counselor Education at Montana State University‑Northern invites applications for a full‑time Associate Professor tenure‑track position. The position may be in‑person or remote, with preference given to candidates who can work on campus. It is a 10‑month position (with additional compensation for summer teaching) anticipated to begin August 1, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach core counseling courses, practicum, and internship, with a primary emphasis on teaching and advising within the School Counseling concentration.

Additional duties include

  • Establishing fieldwork training sites;
  • Engaging in scholarship initiatives;
  • Serving on committees and supporting student recruitment, retention, and progression efforts;
  • Assisting the program in seeking CACREP accreditation;
  • Participating in professional development activities.

The position may be in‑person or remote; approximately six weeks per year on campus is required to fulfill university obligations and support the residency model.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education with a specialization in School Counseling, preferably from a CACREP‑accredited program;
  • Professional experience as a school counselor;
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level via distance and/or virtual learning environments;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse communities;
  • Professional memberships in counseling organizations relevant to the field.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Licensed or licensed‑eligible as a School Counselor in Montana;
  • Strong record of leadership;
  • Experience advising and mentoring graduate students;
  • Experience creating, developing, and strengthening partnerships with fieldwork training sites;
  • Experience with curriculum mapping and program evaluation;
  • Knowledge of CACREP accreditation standards and processes.
