The position is located on the Island of Oahu.
Salary:
Level I $3,748 – $4,742 per month (SR-12, Step C to I). Level II $4,054 – $5,133 per month (SR-14, Step C to I). Level III $4,388 – $5,555 per month (SR-16, Step C to I).
These positions perform secretarial services as a primary work assignment, along with minor administrative, clerical, and related services for a program manager. The assistant supports the manager in planning, programming, budgeting, and coordination, facilitating workflow, and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities scale with complexity, ranging from basic clerical support to high‑level secretarial duties and personal assistance for senior program managers.
MinimumQualification Requirements
General Experience Requirement (Level I‑IV) – Six (6) months of work experience involving tasks that demonstrate knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and the ability to speak and write simply and directly.
Specialized Experience Requirement
- Level I – One (1) year of progressively responsible typing or substantive clerical work, knowledge of common office appliances and equipment, and the ability to perform secretarial tasks such as telephone reception, file maintenance, travel arrangements, correspondence, and computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
- Level II – Two (2) years of progressively responsible typing or substantive clerical work with the same responsibilities as Level I.
- Level III – Two (2) years of progressively responsible typing or substantive clerical work plus one (1) year focused on personal assistance to an administrator or executive, encompassing overall awareness of program activities, sound judgment, and advanced secretarial duties.
Substitution Allowed
- Graduation from high school or equivalent may substitute for the General Experience.
- Excess Specialized Experience may substitute for General Experience.
- Completion of a substantially full‑time clerical/office support curriculum leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate, with fifteen (15) semester credits for six (6) months of Specialized Experience (up to one (1) year).
- Education in a baccalaureate program at an accredited college or university may substitute for Specialized Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester credits for six (6) months of experience (up to one (1) year).
Legal authorization to work requirement: the applicant must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
