Position: Victims Services Assistant - SR-13
Location: Kailua Kona

Administrative Support For Domestic Violence And Sexual Assault Investigations

Independently performs a variety of administrative, technical, and clerical support for the programs and activities involving the investigations of domestic violence and sexual assault cases; serves as the department's liaison regarding such cases, working with service agencies and the victims; and performs other related duties as assigned. There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney - Victim/Witness Unit in Kailua-Kona.

The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.

Examples Of Duties
  • Oversees, sets up, revises, and maintains the program's files and control records.
  • Opens case files; reviews, compiles, summarizes, and enters data into the central database; monitors the status of pending cases and prepares reports as requested.
  • Analyzes and searches through files, records, and police reports to extract and compile data; organizes information and prepares operational, statistical, and special reports.
  • Establishes a good working relationship with the various private and public agencies that provide services to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
  • Establishes telephone contact and maintains positive relationship with victims; provides updates on the status of their case; discusses concerns and related problems; informs victims of the agencies that provide services; may assist in coordinating services with agencies as requested; keeps investigators informed of victims' concerns.
  • Acts as the department's liaison regarding cases; attends inter-agency meetings to ensure continual flow of dialogue and information.
  • Assists police investigators in the transition of victim services to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney's Victim/Witness Counselors when an investigation is submitted for prosecution.
  • Assists investigators with the preparation, revision, and maintenance of internal procedures and guidelines for the Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes Unit.
  • Coordinates the logistics for meetings, workshops, and presentations.
  • Provides information to the public regarding the various agencies working with the department on sexual assault or domestic violence issues.
  • Assists in the preparation of materials and training for departmental and other agencies' personnel.
  • Composes routine correspondence from general instructions; types memoranda, reports, statements, forms, and other materials into final form; checks and proofreads materials.
  • Operates a vehicle to perform work-related duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements

Training and

Experience:

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:

  • graduation from high school, and
  • four (4) years of clerical and administrative work experience that included records and file maintenance; research, tabulation, and preparation of reports; and public contact, of which
  • two (2) years shall have included experience in the criminal justice system or providing services to victims, and
  • possession of a valid State of Hawai`i Driver License (Class
    3) or any other valid comparable driver license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire.)

Examination:
All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.
