Job Summary:

The P YW GENERATION PROJECT DEV Department of the P GENERATION PROJECT DEV Division at Hawaiian Electric Company is offering one Professional role to support Project Developers with comprehensive project management activities.

Job Function

Provides support to Project Developers, including accurate and timely analysis of major project and program performance against approved budgets and milestones; monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements; and maintaining project documentation (e.g., tracking questions and responses, cost variances, presentations, reports, routine updates, meeting participation and minutes, regulatory filings, and permitting status). Develops dashboards and supports project‑progress presentations.

Essential Functions
  • Project/Program Initiating and Planning:
    Supports Project Developers with major project/program initiation, planning, execution, control, and closeout activities. Configures and maintains project/program information and management systems, including development of project/program plans (e.g., work breakdown structure in SAP, schedule, budget in UI Planner), establishment of orders, risk analysis, communication matrix, and other work‑management system interfaces.
  • Company, Regulatory, and External Approvals:
    Develops and prepares project information, reports, analyses, and presentations to support authorizations for expenditures, PUC approvals, rate‑case approvals, and coordination with stakeholders to obtain approvals and permits. Assists with preparing and analyzing PUC applications and project cost reports and helps ensure Project Managers comply with PUC reporting requirements.
  • Project External Relations and Communications:
    Prepares project information, reports, analyses, and presentations for community engagement, media, government agencies, and public meetings. Supports issue resolution and preparation of testimony and presentations for regulatory hearings.
  • Project/Program Controlling:
    Develops, automates, generates, monitors, and analyzes project cost and progress information and reports to support management of project budgets and schedules and compliance with reporting requirements. Tracks status of design, permits, materials, and construction, and follows up with leads to support on‑schedule and within‑budget delivery.
  • Project/Program Closing:
    Supports completion of contractual and administrative closeouts, including project acceptance/signoffs, drawing and record updates, procurement audits/reconciliation, performance and lessons‑learned reviews, resource and project team release, and accounting closeout of the project and associated work orders.
  • Project Forecasting and Budget Maintenance:
    Prepares, coordinates, analyzes, and monitors revenues, expenses, financing, taxes, and capital expenditures. Recommends and implements budgeting and planning methodologies, and delivers ad hoc reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including preparation for such events.
Basic Qualifications Knowledge Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computers and related software applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, SAP, MS Project, Pillar/UI Planner).
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Thorough knowledge of planning and budgeting concepts and forecasting principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of utility accounting, finance, cost accounting, and rate making principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of statistical techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of matrix project‑management systems and critical‑path scheduling (MS Project preferred).
  • Thorough knowledge of PUC application and reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of tax accounting and data‑processing concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering, project management, and planning practices (T&D and generation).
  • Ability to learn and develop working knowledge of project management principles, Earned Value (EV) analysis, and utility information systems.
