Construction Inspector
The Department of Planning and Permitting, Site Development Division, is hiring for one (1) Construction Inspector position in Honolulu. This position independently inspects subdivision and infrastructure construction projects—such as streets, drainage, sewer, storm water, traffic markings, and ADA improvements—to ensure work meets approved plans, permits, City standards, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements.
Responsibilities- Conduct field inspections for permitted construction and infrastructure projects.
- Inspect grading and erosion control, issue compliance/violation notices, and track corrective actions.
- Review trenching and street restoration work, including reinspection and warranty checks.
- Inspect subdivision and frontage improvements (drainage, sewer, pavements, sidewalks, ADA, traffic markings).
- Investigate complaints and ordinance issues related to grading and trenching; refer cases to appropriate agencies.
- On-site field inspections and investigations including climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks and manholes, crawling through pipes, carrying, sampling, measuring and testing equipment, and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces.
- Regular hours anticipated, but may require shift, evening, night, weekend, or holiday to accommodate unusual problems or workload and construction schedules.
$6,090 per month (SR-19) salary includes $1,157 shortage differential.

Education RequirementsEquivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may substitute for education.
Experience RequirementsTWO (2) years of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.
Qualifying ExperienceInspectors, superintendents, trades supervisors, working trade supervisors, etc. with experience of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
