Conditions:
Full time, 9-month, general funds, to begin approximately Fall 2026, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. Renewal of appointment contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.
- Teach in-person and online courses related to public health writing skill development, public health research methods, global health, social & behavioral sciences, health equity, social justice, indigenous health, and other public health topics to community college and early college students and public health professionals.
- Plan and establish new courses and programs.
- Advise and mentor public health students.
- Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
- Serve on departmental and university committees.
- Provide service to professional and community stakeholders as relevant to the individuals academic specialty.
- Perform regular course assessments and participate in ongoing discipline-, program-, and institutional-level assessment.
- Participate in discipline-, division-, campus-, and system-wide committees, as well as relevant partnership initiatives between Kaua9 Community College/University of Hawai9 and the Hawai9 Department of Education.
- Maintain appropriate office hours for each course taught.
- Work collaboratively with other Kaua9 Community College faculty and staff.
- Day, evening, Early College, and/or distance education classes may be assigned as part of regular workload. May be assigned operational or off-site instructional duties as part of regular workload.
- Commitment to community college principles and philosophy;

- Masters degree in Public Health; or
- Masters degree in Epidemiology; or
- Masters degree in Health Policy and Management; or
- Bachelors degree in Public Health and Masters degree in a related field (Nursing, Public Health, Psychology, Social Science, and all Biological Sciences); or
- Masters degree in Nursing and 3 years of Public or Community Health experience; or
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) and 3 years of Public or Community Health experience; or
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and 3 years of Public or Community Health experience
All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis.
Desirable Qualifications- Established record of effective teaching to college students through classroom and/or distance education modalities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new courses and/or programs.
- Experience applying innovative teaching techniques in courses.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct active research through peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, and/or other scholarly products in public health writing, public health pedagogy, and/or health equity.
- Familiarity with public health applied learning experiences.
- Demonstrated interest or experience working in multicultural, multiethnic, and various settings/populations.
