Bilingual/Bicultural School-Home Assistant
Salary Range: $3,606.00 per month. The advertised salary is based on full‑time employment and includes shortage and school‑year differentials, if applicable.
Responsibilities- Serve as liaison to promote cooperation and understanding between parents, school, and project personnel.
- Assist in solving students' educational and related problems.
- Disseminate project information.
- Explain school programs, policies and procedures to parents; translate and relay parents' concerns to project and school staff.
- Seek community resources, maintain a file of these resources, and suggest various resources to assist parents with their problems.
- Suggest parents and others in the community with special skills as resource persons in the classrooms.
- Encourage parents to participate in school activities.
- Assist in organizing Parent Advisory Groups and encourage parent participation.
- Assist in planning and developing projects to increase parent participation in school‑related activities.
- Plan and/or conduct information and interest sessions for parents.
- Assist in translating information on various social and health programs.
- Participate in various training programs and prepare activity reports.
- General Experience
:
Two (2) years of paid or volunteer work experience with individuals and groups, demonstrating the ability to:- Understand and explain materials related to the program/project/activity.
- Establish and maintain rapport with individuals and groups and encourage participation in program/project activities.
- Speak effectively with individuals and groups and elicit pertinent information.
- Plan and conduct group information sessions.
- Prepare activity reports.
- Recognize and identify basic individual human needs.
- Specialized Experience
:
At least one (1) year of experience providing knowledge and skills in:- Knowledge of Marshallese and/or Chuukese culture and language.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand Marshallese and/or Chuukese.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with Marshallese and/or Chuukese communities.
- License Requirement
:
Possession of a current, valid driver's license. - Successful completion of approved Human Services Curriculum may substitute for required experience.
