Island School – Upper School Comprehensive Counselor (Grades 6-10)
Island School seeks a full‑time Upper School Comprehensive Counselor for the school year. The role involves providing support to students who are struggling personally and academically in grades 6-10, working closely with teachers and families to advocate for student success, and coordinating the US Advisory program curriculum. The counselor will establish positive relationships with students, teachers, and deans to ensure a collaborative effort in serving students, particularly those who would benefit from academic and social‑emotional intervention.
Pay range: $65,000 – $85,000, depending on years of experience and education.
- Provide individualized support to students experiencing personal and academic challenges in grades 6-10.
- Collaborate with teachers and deans to advocate for student success and coordinate the US Advisory program curriculum.
- Lead the US Advisory program, ensuring it meets the needs of all students.
- Assess student learning needs and support families in understanding those needs.
- Volunteer for duty supervision, participate in ‘ohana education meetings, and engage fully in school life.
- Design and implement social‑emotional and health programming for the school community.
- A master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field and current counseling licensing, with intent to maintain licensure.
- 5+ years of relevant teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a group.
- Experience designing and implementing social‑emotional and health programming.
- Experience assessing student learning needs and supporting families and students to understand those needs.
- Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, sense of humor, and confidence working with adults and youth.
