Overview
This posting is used to fill various Educational Assistant positions at the specified location. Authorized positions are Educational Assistant III, with openings also offered for Educational Assistant I and II if needed.
Salary RangeEducational Assistant I, SR-10: $3,019.78 per month
Educational Assistant II, SR-12: $3,260.76 per month
Educational Assistant III, SR-14: $3,526.98 per month
- Independently perform various academic, instruction‑related support activities, tutor students as directed, and observe and report on student progress and difficulties.
- Provide social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities in school or community settings to enable independent functioning; observe and report progress; suggest modifications to techniques and tasks.
- Perform counseling support activities, develop rapport with students, encourage expression of problems, observe and report progress, and carry out pre‑approved activities promoting healthy self‑concept and early identification of special needs.
- Provide articulation reinforcement lessons and repetitive drills to correct/improve speech sounds as instructed by the speech pathologist; may receive training on speech/language disorders and therapy techniques.
Graduation from high school or equivalent and one of the following, per the No Child Left Behind Act:
- Successful completion of a Hawaii State Department of Education‑approved examination such as the Para Pro or Para Pathways Assessment.
- At least 48 baccalaureate‑level semester credits, including 3 credits in mathematics and 3 in English.
- An associate degree or higher from an accredited institution recognized by the Department.
- Educational Assistant I: 0 years general, 0 years specialized.
- Educational Assistant II: 1 year general, 0 years specialized.
- Educational Assistant III: 1 year general, 1 year specialized.
General experience: paid or volunteer direct interaction with people, demonstrating ability to observe, evaluate, and report accurately.
Specialized experience: providing direct academic, personal, social, vocational, or behavioral services to children and individuals with disabilities, preferably in an educational setting.
Licence andPhysical Requirements
Some positions require a current, valid driver’s license.
Some positions require ability to lift and carry up to 65 pounds unassisted and/or 100 pounds with assistance.
Substitutions Allowed- Child Development Associate credential or related program may substitute for ½ year of specialized experience.
- 15 semester credits may substitute for ½ year of general experience up to 1 year.
- 15 semester credits in Education may substitute for ½ year of specialized experience up to 2 years.
- Associate degree may substitute for 1 year of general experience.
- Associate degree in Education may substitute for all general and specialized experience.
- Bachelor or higher degree may substitute for all general and specialized experience.
Required years of experience alone are not sufficient; overall experience must demonstrate the scope and responsibility necessary to perform the duties of the position.
