Kamehameha Schools is hiring Preschool Substitute Aides to support our Kaua'i Preschool Region, including Kapaa. This is a temporary, on‑call entry‑level aide position.
Job SummaryAssists in providing a developmentally appropriate learning environment for a class of approximately 20 children in conjunction with the Teacher for the Extended Day or Regular Day Preschool Programs. May assist in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, language‑based curriculum for preschool‑age children that fosters Protestant religion and Hawaiian culture. Maintains required certifications and participates in curriculum development.
Essential Responsibilities- Instructor: assist in daily classroom lessons, appropriate interactions with students, small group instruction, observations and assessment.
- Supervision: supervise student behavior independently and under Teacher direction using appropriate early childhood health and safety guidelines.
- Program/Clerical Support: provide program and clerical support through snack menu pick‑up; maintain attendance and other records; order and maintain materials and supplies.
- Classroom Participation: prepare materials needed for a safe and healthy classroom indoor/outdoor environment, including daily snack preparation and sanitizing; maintain classroom centers, materials, and equipment.
- Staff Development: participate in workshops and in‑services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Able to organize a high volume of varied work activities.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CDA or AA in Early Childhood Education.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and age‑appropriate Protestant religion curriculum.
- Experience working with at‑risk children and/or families.
Frequently sits, performs desk‑based computer tasks and grasps light or fine manipulation, talks or hears. Occasionally stands and/or walks, writes by hand, and lifts and/or carries, pushes and/or pulls objects that weigh up to 30 pounds.
Working ConditionsThe position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighboring islands. Work is conducted Monday through Friday during normal business hours, but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.

Pay RangeHourly compensation starts at $23.14.
