Scope of PositionUnder the direction of the site manager, this position is responsible for conducting preventative maintenance of wind turbines and/or photovoltaic power energy storage systems; and, under the supervision of an experienced technician, conducts troubleshooting and repairs. This position is expected to work safely under all circumstances and to seek guidance for any work for which they are unfamiliar or do not feel competent to perform safely.
Salary range:
The full pay range for this role is $23.00 to $38.00 per hour, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is $25.00 to $30.00 per hour. Salary decisions are based on relevant work experience, education, performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location.
Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend a mandatory five‑week training and certification course at the start of employment. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided.
Responsibilities- In the field:
- Performs preventative maintenance on wind turbines, utility‑scale photovoltaic power plants, and storage systems.
- Under the supervision of an experienced technician, performs troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades/revisions to a broad range of equipment in the renewable industry.
- Properly completes Job Safety Assessments, applies LOTOs by following LOTO plans & procedures, identifies and reports all safety hazards on jobsite, and attends safety meetings.
- Participates in the 24‑hour/weekly “On Call” rotation and works outside business hours when needed.
- Attends safety and technical training required for this position.
- Administrative duties: documenting completed jobs, implementing supply orders, completing daily work orders, time tracking, and other required paperwork.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2–4 years of experience in renewable energy or a similar discipline.
- Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards.
- OSHA 10 or equivalent certification.
- Basic Safety Training (BST) certification under the Global Wind Organization.
- Basic Technical Training (BTT) certification under the Global Wind Organization.
- Control of Hazardous Energies (CoHE) certification under the Global Wind Organization.
- Slinger and Signaler certification under the Global Wind Organization.
- NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B or equivalent certification.
- Valid current driver’s license and meet organizational requirements to operate motor vehicles.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components of wind turbines, photovoltaic power, and energy storage systems.
- Familiar with CSA Z462 / NFPA 70E and able to identify the appropriate PPE for specific tasks and environments.
- Basic understanding of schematics and use of a multimeter.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Successfully complete applicable safety and technical training program for the entry‑level technician.
- Understand, read, write, and speak clearly in English.
- Maximum employee weight (Wind only) must not exceed 285 lb; reviewed annually.
- Use hands and fingers regularly, reach with hands and arms, maintain good hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Stand, crouch, walk, and work for extended periods.
- Operate company vehicles (field trucks) on site and public roads.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 lb, and frequently lift up to 50 lb.
- Work in electrical–mechanical environments.
- Climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights greater than 91 meters.
- Work at heights, including towers, nacelles, and hubs.
- Comfortable with extreme weather conditions and confined spaces.
