Overview

Amentum is seeking a dynamic Systems Architecture Engineer to provide on-site architectural support to the Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) Requirements and Resources Directorate (J8), Edge Theater Architecture (ETA) Team (J83). The Systems Architecture Engineer will provide on-site architectural support to ETA planning and development, working under the direction of the Architecture Lead. Furthermore, the Systems Architecture Engineer will facilitate daily design, development, and evaluation of Network Theater Architectures and provide on-site support.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development of architectural artifacts, including diagrams, models, and specifications.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the feasibility and performance of different architectural options.
  • Provide technical support to the team on architectural matters.
  • Ensure that the architectures are aligned with DoW (formerly DoD) and USINDOPACOM standards.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to develop integrated solutions.
  • Provide on-site support and troubleshooting during experimentation events.
  • Conceptualize operational needs and solutions at a high level and then develop technical requirements and recommend solutions to drive improvements to existing design and solutions.
  • Oversee the strategic interface for system of systems configuration, network configuration, and plan new configurations for network operations with an understanding of system characteristics and network interface specifications to ensure effective integration and optimal performance.
  • Research, design, test, and evaluate new technologies and solutions. Maintain an organization-wide view of current and future operations and architecture to recommend solutions that integrate into the overall architectural vision and strategy.
  • Design and implement computer and information networks, such as LANs, WANs, intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks including Software Defined Networks (SDN).
  • Participate in and/or lead design and engineering projects for ETA experimentation involving advanced engineering and networking principles.
  • Perform network planning, modeling, and analysis.
  • Design network and computer security measures, and research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software.
  • Provide assessments regarding the technical characteristics of proposals to optimize network performance and data throughput for operational users.
  • Conduct advanced assignments such as network design optimization, technical experiments, equipment configuration specification, technology assessment, capacity planning, and configuration management.
  • Travel approximately 15% annually, to Mainland and Allied/Partner nations, in support of conferences, planning sessions, and exercises/experiments.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work/military experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience supporting the DoW, including at least 3 years in military operations.
  • Knowledge of the USINDOPACOM AOR.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Active Top-Secret security clearance, with SCI eligibility later during employment. US Citizenship is required to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems integration and/or network infrastructure for a complex DoW network.
  • Understanding of network technologies (SDN, SD-WAN, routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, load balancing, network visibility).
  • Understanding of network practices and protocols (communications, management, and security).
  • Experience with multi-vendor firewalls, switches, and routers.
  • Understanding and experience in cloud networking design for hybrid and cloud-native deployments.
  • Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite, IP subnets, masking, and routing protocols.
  • Knowledge of network bandwidth, requirements, and routing through network devices or public network extensions.
  • Experience in developing network design layouts and presentations using network diagram tools.
