Responsibilities
- Set up, check-out, operate, monitor, and maintain telecommunications systems for range operations.
- Respond to evolving operational environment requirements when directed.
- Perform periodic inspections and maintenance tasks per published procedures and/or OEM guidelines.
- Document all maintenance actions in system and equipment records.
- Troubleshoot and repair systems and equipment by interpreting electronic and mechanical schematics, using tools and test equipment.
- Install, bench-test, calibrate, and perform acceptance testing on new and relocated equipment as directed.
- Perform COMSEC functions—including accounting, loading, destruction, and courier services—for classified cryptographic materials.
- Maintain telecommunications inside cable plant and major battery backup systems.
- Travel occasionally to support operations at other locations throughout the State of Hawaii, including at sea for extended periods.
- Perform other duties as required, including lifting, pushing, pulling over 50 lbs., standing, kneeling, stair climbing, and working in confined or inclement environments.
- Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent training (e.g., a 2‑year technical school or Navy “A” school specializing in basic electricity and electronics).
- One or more soldering certificates or equivalent training.
- 10 years of progressive experience in a related field, including at least two years operating and maintaining telecommunications for voice, video, data, and related networking systems.
- Experience with radio‑frequency (RF) transmission and antenna systems for ground radio, microwave, satellite, and other associated telecommunications technologies.
- Experience with telecommunications inside cable plant, main and intermediate distribution frames, and cable record‑keeping.
- Experience with major battery backup and power distribution systems (desired).
- Proficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, RF power meters, analyzers, voltmeters, bit‑error‑rate testers, time‑domain reflectometers, toners/tracers.
- Strong knowledge of basic electricity and electronics theory, OSI 7‑layer model, Windows and Linux platforms.
- PC skills:
Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. - US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government clearance.
$50.69 per hour (subject to variation based on experience, market data, and applicable laws).
