Senior General Engineer — Facilities & Infrastructure Leader

Position Overview

Chief, Engineer Division at a large installation within the Installation Management Command.

• Provide full range of real property and facilities design engineering, construction, maintenance, energy conservation, and related engineering services for the installation.
• Evaluate effectiveness of subordinate operations through review and analysis of production reports and inspections.
• Apply multi‑disciplined engineering knowledge and skills; perform technical reviews of designs, plans, and project specifications for work to be accomplished by the subordinate organization.
• Act as authorized representative of the contracting officer and/or division engineer for architectural and engineering service contracts for various types of engineering services such as reports, studies, and designs.

• Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination based on background investigation.
• Position requires a Secret security clearance.
• Job includes 25 % temporary duty (TDY) or business travel.
• Position designated “Mission Essential”: employee must report to work or remain at work during severe weather or emergency situations.
• Includes 1‑year probationary period to assess supervisory performance.
• Former incumbent has return rights; agreement needed acknowledging disposition under reduction‑in‑force procedures.

Basic requirements for a general engineer:

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering from an accredited ABET program, or program that includes at least five of the seven specified areas of engineering science.
• Alternatively, a combination of education and experience meeting the criteria for engineering competence and professional registration, written test, specified coursework, or related curriculum with professional engineering experience.

Specialized experience for GS‑14:

• One year of specialized experience in design and construction of facilities or infrastructure, or repair/alteration of facilities.
• Development of project specifications and design criteria for major architectural and infrastructure construction projects.
• Guidance of engineering solutions to unusual issues and situations.
• Tracking and realignment of project resource allocations based on funding or personnel assessments.

Foreign education:

• Education completed in foreign institutions must be evaluated and deemed equivalent to U.S. accredited programs.

• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship required.
• 1‑year probationary period for fitness evaluation.
• Direct deposit of pay required.
• Selection subject to restrictions from the Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
• Position is an 18 Engineer Career Field.
