Help ensure the safety of employees and the community as a Safety Specialist I! The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Administration Division is hiring a Safety Specialist I located in Kapolei. This position, under the general direction of the Safety Specialist II, assists in the planning, development, coordination, and execution of a comprehensive safety and accident prevention program for the Department.
WhatYou Will Do
- Assist in planning, developing, coordinating, and executing a safety prevention program for DPR.
- Identify and evaluate training needs.
- Recommend course/program development.
- Consult with professionals to prepare safety education and training materials.
- Arrange and coordinate special and technical training courses/services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Serves as the backup to the Department Emergency Coordinator, in the position of Alternate Emergency Coordinator, during emergencies.
- Will be required to work evenings, holidays and weekends during special events or emergency call outs.

Minimum Qualification RequirementsAt time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non‑citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education RequirementEquivalent to graduation from a regionally‑accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field. Substitution:
Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year‑for‑year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
- Four (4) years of professional work experience, in any occupation, may substitute for a general bachelor's degree.
- Four (4) years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in industrial safety may substitute for a general bachelor's degree.
One year of professional experience in industrial safety and accident prevention activities.
Applicable Skills Needed Knowledge Of- safety laws and other accepted standards applicable to industrial safety and accident prevention
- industrial and construction accident hazards and methods of correction and prevention common industrial safety devices and equipment
- safety inspection principles, practices, and procedures
- safety education media, principles, and procedures
- make safety inspections and detect unsafe conditions and practices
- interpret and enforce pertinent safety laws, codes, rules, and regulations; investigate and determine the causes of accidents
- conduct safety education and instruction courses
Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type
3), prior to appointment.
