SalarySalary: $6,043 to $7,351 per month (SR-24, Step D to I). Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
Duties SummaryPositions in the Investigator series perform and/or supervise investigations concerning suspected or actual violations of civil, administrative and/or criminal laws, rules, regulations or other legal requirements.
The Investigator V level plans, organizes, directs and coordinates investigative activities within its jurisdiction, focusing on specific program areas such as welfare fraud, or conducting investigations across various jurisdictions (executive, legislative, judicial branches, state departments, federal governments, regulatory boards and commissions). The role may also involve other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification RequirementsEligibility:
Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Basic Education/
Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.
Specialized
Experience:
Minimum 3½ years of progressively responsible professional investigative experience demonstrating:
- Initiative, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and judgment required to collect, assemble, and develop facts and other pertinent data;
- The ability to think logically, objectively, analyze and evaluate facts, evidence, and related information, and arrive at sound conclusions;
- Skill in written and oral reports and presentation of investigative findings in a clear and concise manner; and
- Tact, discretion, and capacity for obtaining the cooperation and confidence of others.
Quantity of
Experience:
At least one (1) year of specialized experience must have been comparable in scope, complexity, and responsibility to work experience characteristic of the Investigator IV class. The Investigator IV positions involve investigations of suspected or actual violations, determination of case approach, evidence gathering, report preparation, and other related duties.
Investigator IV positions may include:
- Independent investigator performing the full range of investigations within an agency’s jurisdiction, focusing on complex nature and specific program areas;
- One of two investigators responsible for a small investigative program in an agency without higher‑level supervisory guidance;
- Supervisory investigator overseeing investigations carried out according to standard policies and procedures.
Supervisory Aptitude:
Supervisory aptitude rather than actual supervisory experience may be accepted when strong affirmative evidence of the necessary supervisory abilities and/or potential is present.
Substitutions:
Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements are allowed.
Driver’s License:
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
