The Department of Planning and Permitting, Site Development Division is hiring a Planner IV (Transportation Planning - General) located at the Fasi Municipal Building in Honolulu. This position plays a key role in supporting the development, coordination, and implementation of traffic and transportation planning projects.
What You Will Do- Plan and coordinate transportation studies
, analyzing traffic, population, and land use data to guide street capacities and traffic patterns. - Review subdivision plans for compliance with zoning, engineering, and traffic regulations.
- Assess environmental impact studies
, validating traffic data, volumes, and patterns, and preparing reports for the State Environmental Quality Commission. - Analyze traffic assignment data to support capital improvement planning for the City’s street system.
Planner IV (SR-22) salary of $5,953 per month includes shortage differential.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTEquivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in city planning, architecture, engineering, economics, sociology, public administration or a related field.
Substitution:
Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year‑for‑year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTThree (3) years of professional work experience in architecture, engineering or socio‑economic research, including or supplemented by one (1) year of professional work experience in transportation planning and/or engineering projects.
