Job Description Summary

The Ammunition Inspector (AI) serves as a subject matter expert within the Ammunition Division. Ammunition Inspectors provide technical support under the guidance of the Government Quality Assurance Specialist (Ammunition Surveillance) (QASAS), who is responsible for the oversight of the Army’s Stockpile Reliability Program. This position ensures the safety, compliance, and proper management of Ammunition and Explosives (A&E) through inspections, certifications, and operational oversight on a daily basis.

Duties
  • Conduct pre‑issue inspections of ammunition items for restrictions or suspensions.
  • Inspect vehicles, equipment, and storage areas for safety and security compliance related to A&E.
  • Perform inspections of A&E residue returned to the ammunition residue yard and certify it as explosive‑free.
  • Manage amnesty processes, including identification, inspection, segregation, documentation, and packaging for storage or disposition.
  • Validate documents to ensure compatibility measures are met in accordance with 49 CFR or other transportation regulations via shipping and receiving operations.
  • Inspect ammunition storage locations to ensure explosive safety compliance, compatibility, explosive limits, structural integrity, inventory, and physical security measures are being met by regulation.
  • Record inspection results in a Depot Surveillance Record (DSR) using the Munitions History Program (MHP).
  • Must be able to communicate effectively using technical writing.
  • Adhere to SOPs and regulatory guidance during all ammunition preparation operations to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Conduct visual (physical) inspections, damage‑in‑transit (DIT) assessments, receipt inspections (RI), and periodic inspections (PI) within ASP locations and related areas.
  • Complete DD Form 626 (Motor Vehicle Inspection) for commercial and military vehicles transporting ammunition.
  • Complete DD Form 2890 for all ammunition movement.
  • Inspection munitions to ensure safety and compliance measures are met for issue, storage and shipment.
  • Process Ammunition Inspection Records and recommend condition code assignments based on established criteria to QASAS.
  • Support cross‑functional job tasks as assigned by the Munitions Division Manager and/or Operation(s) Supervisors.
Preferred Experience
  • 5+ years as an Ammunition Handler
  • Familiarity with ammunition processes, regulations, and inspection requirements.
  • Experience working within ammunition storage or munitions handling environments.
  • Technical knowledge of ammunition types, capabilities, and hazardous materials handling.
  • High level of precision in identifying defects.
Qualifications & Certifications
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must obtain a favorable Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) background screening and acquire DA Form 7708 certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull at least 50 lbs.
  • Must have normal color perception and depth of vision.

Work Schedule
  • Standard

    Hours:

    Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed and adapt to support other job areas as operational requirements dictate.
