Motor Carrier Safety Officers are responsible for enforcing laws related to commercial vehicles, including regulations related to vehicle registration, safety, and vehicle weight limits. Duties include conducting investigations, inspections, and compliance surveys.
The Motor Carrier Safety Officer I is the entry level worker in the series. Positions in this class receive formal and on-the-job training on motor carrier safety rules and regulations, inspection practices and procedures, and accident investigation techniques, and perform other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsLegal Authorization to Work Requirement
:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
General Experience
:
One (1) year of work experience demonstrating knowledge of arithmetic, the ability to read, understand, and explain rules and regulations, conduct inspections or investigations for compliance with laws, rules, and regulations, follow verbal and written instructions, and prepare clear, concise reports.
Lifting Requirement
:
- All positions require the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds assisted by another person or equipment such as hoisting equipment or hand truck with or without reasonable accommodation.
Driver's License Requirement
:
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
State's Measure master License
:
Applicants must possess a valid State's Measure master license or be able to obtain such license within the 6‑month probationary period.
