Band 1
COSMETOLOGIST
Primary Responsibilities: Cut, color, and style hair according to the customer’s preference. May also do manicures, pedicures, facials, and waxing. Must be knowledgeable in the use of beauty and hair products. Recommend and sell products in the shop. Must remain current on new products and techniques in the salon business. May answer the phone and book appointments. Perform duties in a friendly manner and personalize the service.
- Greet and welcome patrons in friendly manner, personalizing the service.
- Cut, color and style hair according to customer’s preference; provide service according to standards.
- May do other services such as facials, waxing, manicures, pedicures, etc.
- Knowledgeable in the use of beauty and hair products for sale at the salon.
- Collect payments or make charges for services rendered or products sold following money handling policies and procedures.
- Respond and resolve guest concerns in a timely manner.
- Keep salon clean and ensure equipment is working properly.
- Answer phones and schedule appointments.
- Develop or recommend services that will increase revenue and keep the salon current and competitive.
- Follow safety procedures and policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Other Duties:
- Price, stock and inventory merchandise for sale.
- Knowledgeable in resort activities and facilities and Big Island attractions.
Working Conditions:
- Indoors in a salon.
- Low to moderate noise levels from the equipment such as hairdryer.
- Low to moderate odors from chemicals for hair and nail treatments.
Work Hours:
- Must be able to work shift and days determined by the Salon Manager.
- Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week, when needed.
Equipment Use:
- Ability to use the telephone.
- Ability to use salon equipment; hand held hairdryers, curling iron, scissors, brush, comb, facial and waxing tools, nail clipper and file, etc.
Mental and Physical Demands:
- Able to stand and walk during most of shift.
- Sit, bend, stoop and reach to style hair, manicure or pedicure.
- Lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
Communication Demands:
- Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, manager and guests/clients.
- Ability to communicate over the phone.
- 3 years related work experience.
- Must be able to multi-task.
- Able to read and write to take appointments; read labels on products.
- Must be pleasant, smiling and friendly.
