Job Overview
Behavioral Health Specialist – Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus. Supports K‑12 students and campus residential community. Works independently with teamwork to enhance student well‑being.
Responsibilities- Provide individual and group behavioral health counseling services to students.
- Conduct assessments, develop counseling goals, monitor progress, and make referrals as warranted.
- Deliver crisis intervention services following established protocols, including after‑hours and emergency situations.
- Serve as liaison for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect.
- Participate on the Student Success Team: coordinate development and implementation of support plans for students requiring targeted or intensive supports.
- Communicate with families, conduct home visits, and help coordinate off‑campus professional services.
- Consult with administrators, teachers, counselors, and off‑campus professionals to optimize student well‑being.
- Teach behavioral health classes and provide employee resources on behavioral health topics.
- Facilitate workshops for parents to enhance social and emotional growth of students.
- For residents and in boarding community settings, provide 24‑hour immediate crisis/emergency intervention and consult with dormitory advisors on student placement and support.
- Travel to neighboring islands for home visits as required.
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health, or a closely related field that meets DCCA educational requirements for clinical licensure in Hawaii.
- 2‑3+ years of experience providing behavioral health services to K‑12 aged students.
- Valid State of Hawaii clinical license (LMHC, LMFT, or LCSW) or ability to obtain licensure within 2 years.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate group counseling activities and teach classes on behavioral health topics.
- High degree of professionalism and genuine concern for student well‑being.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; organized; strong listening skills; ability to relate well to faculty, staff, students, parents, administrators, and external service providers.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
- Experience counseling age‑appropriate children and working with families.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift up to 10 lbs as required.
Competitive salary ($61,111 – $160,818) based on experience and credentials. 11‑month work year. Comprehensive benefits package that supports physical, mental, and financial well‑being of employees.
LocationMaui Campus – Makawao, Hawaii. Work may involve travel to neighboring islands.
