The Director of Laboratory is responsible for the overall operation, administration, and quality management of the laboratory. This position ensures that laboratory testing services are accurate, timely, and compliant with applicable regulatory standards. The Director oversees laboratory personnel, maintains quality control systems, and ensures safe laboratory operations while supporting high standards of patient care.
Essential Functions- Oversees daily laboratory operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable testing services across pre‑analytic, analytic, and post‑analytic phases.
- Ensures laboratory testing systems, procedures, and protocols meet regulatory requirements and support high‑quality diagnostic services.
- Establishes and maintains quality control and quality assessment programs to monitor laboratory performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensures the laboratory environment, equipment, and safety protocols protect staff from physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
- Supervises laboratory personnel, including training, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development.
- Ensures compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards related to laboratory operations.
- Supports quality improvement initiatives and operational reporting.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field.
- Medical Technologist (MT) certification through a recognized national registry.
- Five years of experience as a Medical Technologist.
- Two years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
Preferred:
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing, walking, and sitting.
- Flexible working hours on‑site.
- Frequent use of hands and coordination for laboratory tasks.
- Requires strong visual acuity, including color and depth perception.
- Exposure to infectious materials, chemicals, and potential electrical hazards.
- Ability to maintain concentration and respond to urgent or emergency situations.
