Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Collections Manager, the Phlebotomist Collections Trainer is responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive staff training program for Collections to include whole blood and automated collections; and all aspects of collecting a quality unit that is pure and potent. Participate in the development, review and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Performs all duties of Collections Specialist.

The Collections Trainer may also be responsible for performing tissue related operational procedures and tasks that comply with core current good tissue practice (cGTP) requirements. Ensures all procedures and processes are performed as designed to prevent circumstances that increase the risk of the introduction, transmission, or spread of communicable diseases through the use of human cells, tissue and cellular and tissue-based products (HCT/Ps).

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Training Program: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive training program, including materials, assessments, and evaluation tools. Analyze performance, identify training needs, and deliver targeted training. Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance.
• Collections Training: Plan, develop, and facilitate training and competency assessments for all collection functions.

• SOP Development: Participate in the development, review, and revision of SOPs.
• Quality Assurance: Collaborate with Quality staff to ensure compliance with cGMPs and quality processes. Support investigations and corrective actions.
• Professional Development: Participate in department meetings, training activities, and continuing education programs.
• Process Improvement: Assist in process improvement initiatives.

  Maintain proficiency by performing collection duties as assigned, including donor assessment, phlebotomy, and reaction management.
• New Hire Orientation: Coordinate and implement new hire orientation, ensuring compliance and overseeing training progression.
• CQI Analysis: Assist with research and process Continuous Quality Indicators (CQIs) and Donor History Questionnaires (DHQs) to identify trends and implement process changes.
• Quality Control: Review Quality Control (QC) data, identify training needs, and develop solutions to prevent recurring issues.
• Performance Monitoring: Coordinate performance statistics, discuss trends, and implement retraining as needed.
• Customer Service: Incorporate customer service principles in all training.
• Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a resource for SOP revisions and updates, ensuring compliance with the Change Control process.
• Role Model: Demonstrate expected behaviors and exemplify company values.
• Other Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• One year of blood collection experience with demonstrated knowledge of blood bank collection operations.
• Previous technical training experience preferred.
• Understanding of training methodologies and previous experience with quality assurance activities preferred.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
