Job Description

Ka'u Hospital is currently seeking a Certified Nurse Aide/Transporter (Entry Level or Full Performance) to assist with patient care and resident transportation duties. The CNA/Transporter will drive a state vehicle (sedan or minivan) to transport patients to appointments and recreational excursions, on average three 8-hour shifts per week. This position receives State of Hawaii medical and retirement benefits and paid time off.
Applicants must have a valid State of Hawaii drivers license (standard Type
3) and submit a traffic abstract with their application.
- Safely transport patients within the facility and between locations using wheelchairs, stretchers, or escort assistance, and drive hospital vehicles to transport patients, equipment, specimens, or supplies as assigned.
Provide direct patient care and support, including personal hygiene assistance (bathing, toileting, dressing) and vital signs monitoring in hospital, clinic, or long-term care settings. - Assist with patient mobility and comfort, such as lifting/transferring, range of motion activities, feeding, and preparing patients for meals.
- Document patient care and observations accurately, communicate changes in condition to nursing staff, and maintain a clean, safe environment.
- Support patient activity and participation, including transport, recreational activities, and implementing care plans under supervision.
- Assist clinical staff with patient transfers (e.g., bed, chair, wheelchair) and observe/report any changes in patient condition to the nursing team.
Entry Level: Knowledge of personal hygiene and bodily care.
Full Performance:
In addition to entry-level qualifications, one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting such as a hospital or similar medical facility providing direct patient care. Experience should demonstrate basic nursing skills, including taking vital signs, recognizing abnormal signs and symptoms, infection control and universal precautions, first aid, and assisting with activities of daily living and restorative care. Must be able to work as part of a treatment team and provide age-appropriate personal care to patients.
Substitutions Allowed:
Completion of a practical nursing or professional nursing curriculum from an accredited school substitutes for the experience required for the full performance level.
Certification
Required:
Valid State of Hawaii Nurse Aide (CNA) Certificate, showing that training was received from a state approved program;
Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application.
License
Required:
Applicants must possess a valid Hawaii Type 3 (standard) Driver’s License and provide a copy of their Traffic Abstract. These documents must be submitted with the application.
